OR TAMBO INT AIRPORT

On our wait to our boarding gate, jetting off on our trip to London, but first a pit stop in Istanbul :)

Misty mist

It was a misty night, one that i have never seen like this before in Jhb. It was so beautiful to see all luminous bursts of colour in what seemed to be a dream at first.

Telkoms new cellular network... I'm contemplating moving to them. South
Africa's other mobile networks are ripping us off blind. www.8ta.com

Complaint

Today brought another unpleasant surprise. The bank I have been banking with
since I was 5 years old, now undoubtedly has the worst level of service I
have ever experienced (even though they have signs all over the bank, "Voted
best level of service"). Each time I go there, the ATM is either broken or
doesn't work, and like today, it was no different. So I went inside to
deposit my money, only to be told to join the extremely long queue, with
only 3 tellers, slowly working. This has now resulted me in researching
another bank, that has apparently the lowest bank charges in the country. I
will be taking my services elsewhere. Standard Bank's slogan reads: Moving
Forward - I think it should be: MOVING BACKWARDS.

Urban Art

I really wish that something like this could be pulled off here in South
Africa. This giant wooden clip is currently being showcased in Belgium, in
the Chaudfontaine park as part of a contemporary art exhibition. Designed by
Mehmet Ali Uysal, the unusual park addition replicates the clip, a common
smart tool used to hang clothes... (from cubme.com).

Amazing Architecture

Lou Ruvo Center, Cleveland Clinic by Frank Gehry

The riotously sculptural $100-million Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for
Brain Health in Las Vegas, the story is about the depths - and ultimately
the limits - of the human mind.
While the signature steel forms of the Lou Ruvo Center may at first suggest
the building is just another Gehry project, think again. What distinguishes
this Gehry design from the rest is that it is the only one for hire, not to
mention that the building has received critical praise from the Los Angeles
Times architecture critic, Christopher Hawthorne, as having the most
impressive Gehry-designed interior space since the architect's Disney
Concert Hall in 2003. The complex comprises two wings connected by an open
courtyard: a dedicated research center, located at the northern end of the
building, and a 'for-hire' event space, dubbed the Life Activity Center,
located at the southern end. Architecturally, the two spaces are
dramatically different and yet together they form a cohesive whole. The
four-storey clinic, which houses medical offices, patient rooms and research
space, is rational. From one of my favourite 'design' blogs cubme.com.

FINISHED

I decided that i'm always showing what i'm about to have, and how big or small my slice was, so today i decided on showing my empty plate of crumbs, so that you the reader can muster up something of your own imagination... But also that today marks the last day of university for this year. Can i believe it? No i can not, it simply zoomed past way too fast! But a lot has been accomplished this year, especially in my life. Full of discovery, joy, fun, laughter, procrastination, love, fights, passion, God, ME, travel, work... And yet the year is not over, but some how seems so far from over. I still have exams, still have to find a job (For my practical year), and then there is still shopping, and finally packing- passport, money, ticket, boyfriend and yes i'd like an aisle seat please! :) my stomach is filled with anticipation and fuzzyness. I'm in awe!

Lamb's Tail

Common Name: Lamb's Tail, Botanical name: Sedum Morganianum. Just Googled
it, and apparently originates from Mexico. I got mine from my Aunt down in
Durban. She gave me a whole hanging basket full, which is in the east - the
country home... :) As you can see it is currently in flower, with the most
gorgeous small little pink flowers... Absolutely love it! The best thing is
that it makes for a great gift, just break off a bit and there is your
present.

Miss You

You know who you are... ;)

Cacti

My 'city apartment' cacti, in the West. Cute little things... I'm talking to
them everyday - little words of encouragement you know - so that they will
grow!

Loving the new stats tool...

Think this is awesome... even though my stats are low... it's great to know
people AROUND the world are viewing my 'special' blog.

'Procrastina-SHION'

Found this picture funny, so considering what a tough time I have with procrastination, here is a definition I found on Wikipedia: Procrastination refers to the counterproductive deferment of actions or tasks to a later time. Etymology: The modern term comes from the Latin word procrastinatus, which is the past participle of procrastinare derived from pro- (forward) and crastinus (of tomorrow). It is first attested in 1548 by the Oxford English Dictionary. Well I guess I best be getting back to my work... J

String Gardens

ABSOLUTLEY love this... so original and creative. www.stringgardens.com for

Sandton Library

Was going to Sandton Library to find out how much it costs to become a
member... To my surprise the entrance is shockingly right next to the taxi
rank... not a pretty sight (especially for my blog...). Any way, amazingly
membership is free, which is great! The picture is of the front entrance
just off Nelson Mandela Square. I like how the arches speak a tongue of
architectural language that is both pleasing to eye and ergonomically sound.

Stumble upon

I LOVE IT when you stumble upon something that you did not expect to see...
I walking through Sandton to get to the library, and found this place, right
next to it... all in its own little world. It is the Gauteng Centre for Arts
and Crafts, and I must congratulate them. Although there was nothing being
exhibited, I must say, the space was an exhibition itself. This looks like
something out of a Book or European architecture magazine. Totally fell in
love with this place, and will keep an eye out to see what up and coming
exhibitions will be taking place. So what is the moral of the story here,
always walk around your city, cause with a blink of an eye things change -
and fast... (or so it seems in my case...).

Biggest slice yet...

Sitting at my favorite coffee shop, and missing someone special. I get 'VIP' treatment because i'm a frequent eater of cake, and have gotten the biggest slice yet, with a happy birthday message afterwards, i wonder if he knew it was my birthday or just saying that because of the huge slice he gave me, either way, i'm happy. I'm researching for our holiday in december, london, brittany, Copenhagen and turkey. How fab it will be to get away and try a whole new world of coffee and cake :) hmmmm Hmmmm

Heck... HAIL!

The first hail storm... was quite weird, after having a 'monkeys wedding'
the first small hail stones fell whilst the sun was shining, then larger and
larger, and then I began to worry about all the small seedlings out there...
But they survived, as it only lasted 5 minutes this time...

Arum Lillies

Our first Yellow Arum Lilly of the season. As you can see, there are many
more to come :)

I just can't get enough...

...of this gorgeous cat - Mika

Jo'Burg North

A crisp blue sky after our first rain storm, since not having rain for over
190 days.

Colour Collaboration

There is no sky, than a Jozi sky after it has rained in summer...

Pavillion

This was an amazing artwork that I "stumbled upon" at my architectural
student congress in Johannesburg this year. It was at the Mary Fitzgerald
Square in Newtown, and made with over a million bottle caps. It is 4 stories
high - I think it is simply amazing.
